students as one of the more noted american novels of the century; hence the
sales

Here's an interesting item in this weekend's New York Times Book Review
about classics publishing. Note the mention of Gatsby sales on Page 2:
Although sales of the original ML edition apparently didn't top 5,000 copies
in the 1930s (per Satterfield), the novel sold a half-million copies for
Simon & Schuster in 2002. Wow.
