John and Ron, 

I have a copy of this title that dates to Spring, 1936 (Gogol:Dead Souls, but no Malraux:Man's Fate).  It has the New Modern Library Edition.  My copy doesn't have a DJ, so I don't have that info.  So the NMLE on the copyright page does seem to be bogus.
