Scribner's cancelled the ML's reprint contracts. Scribner's wanted to publish its most important authors themselves for all markets. Paperbound editions of Hemingway's works were published in the Scribner Library, its quality paperback series.

Is there a reason why Hemingway completely left the ML around the 1953 -
1954 time frame? Both novels and the collection of short stories were
removed from the catalog. He won the Nobel prize in 1954, I would expect
interest to still be there.
Pressure from J. Edgar Hoover?
