Shakespeare and Dante have appeared on US stamps. There is a long list of US authors with ML titles who have appeared on US stamps; among them are Steinbeck, Hemingway, Einstein, Emerson, Fitzgerald, Franklin, Hawthorne, Jefferson, Longfellow, Melville, Parker, Poe, T. Roosevelt, Thoreau, Twain, Whitman, Wilson and probably more for those authors included in anthologies of poetry and short stories. You can cross-reference Mr. Toledano's book or a list from the website with Scott's US Stamp Catalogue. Since I stopped collecting US stamps thirteen years ago, I am not as familiar with US commemoratives and definitives. US Presidents in ML who have appeared or will soon appear on US coins include Jefferson, Grant, Wilson and T. Roosevelt. For the past decade or so the proliferation of commemorative coins has imitated the proliferation of US stamp issues. (I have included authors who have titles in the 1975-2011 ML issues.)

Subject: [ModLib] Coins

I admit I'm not as serious a collector as most on this list but I do like
y Modern Library books and will when I can order the price guide and also
ontribute to the upkeep of the website but today I have a non book
elated ML question. I know that some authors, Borges and Octavio Paz
pecifically, have had commeorative coins minted for them in Argentina and
exico. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any coins that have been minted
or authors in the Modern Library canon? How about stamps. I'm thinking it
ight be nice to augment my library with coins for some of my favorite
uthors. Any ideas? Thanks...robert watling jr.
Today is only one day in all the days that will ever be. But what will
appen in all the other days that ever come can depend on what you do
oday. It's been that way all this year. It's been that way so many
imes.---Ernest Hemingway
