I need some help with identifying this copy of John Hersey's "A Bell for
Adano" that I recently purchased...

DJ - White with blue block printing for title, author name in blue
italics. There is no picture. Back of DJ is white. No listing of titles on DJ.
Spine has no number, just the author's name and the book title. One flap
of the DJ has the normal written summary of the book, printed in blue and
specifically mentioning the "new Forward, especially written for this Modern
Library edition..." but does not have a price. The other DJ flap is blank.
The DJ shows sign of aging. The book number is nowhere on the DJ.

Book Binding - Book is bound in light greenish grey buckram, not cloth like
Blumenthal (#8) style. Title and author name is written lengthwise on the
spine in black type, not boxed like Blumenthal (#8). No ML logo on
spine. Endpapers are present and are Kent style. Book publishing data and title
page state "Modern Library." Not an FEL. Eight page ML catalogue/title
listing in back of book - listing includes both Hemingway titles, Maltese
Falcon, and Red Star Over China. Book is in outstanding shape, near fine.

Does anyone know what this is? Is it a pirated edition?

Thanks,

Sean Mitchell
