Yes, you are right, I did mean to type #12!
It is your second paragraph that I was trying to zero in on. Do we have a list of titles such as the War In US & Thurber where the first edition statement was never changed and, does ,As I Lay Dying belong on such a list?

Both Toledano and the 1st Notes on Scott's site indicate a 12 spine on the
first. I have a copy with a 12 spine, Kent endpapers, and a 1st statement
on the copyright page. Since no one indicated they had this title in an 11
spine on Ron Halls work last year, I would be surprised if it exits.
ML probably left the 1st statement on the copyright page as they have done
with a few other volumes, like Bemelman's War with the US.

I have no idea if the following has been covered or not?
Today, picked up a spine 14, blank end papers with ISBN, with First Edition
statement, light gray binding; in no way can this be a First.
The First edition of this title should be,spine #11, no ISBN
