Fitzgerald started working regularly in Hollywood in 1937. In 1934 he was living in Baltimore--ill, deeply in debt ($11,000 owed to Harold Ober and Scribners), and often drunk. 95 cents, however, never would have meant much to Fitzgerald.

He did have brief stints in Hollywood before then, including one in 1932 that produced his memorable story "Crazy Sunday."
