Are people collecting the current Modern Library? It seems to lack what is so appealing about the good ol' days. They now seem to publish everything, it is mostly paperback, and it also includes true firsts, such as the recent Peter Matthieson novel. And it is hardly inexpensive but priced comparably to the general market. A vintage modern library is cheaper than a new modern library paperback.

Hi Folks,

I'm trying to find condition standards by which to judge/label
catalogs with paper wrappers (such as all ML catalogs). Are the
standards the same as we use for books, or are there separate "paper
ephemera" standards? If separate, is there a definitive web page on
the subject?

Thanks,

Scot Kamins

A good question,; I only know of a few collectors that have the knowledge to take on such a project besides Henry... and Henry is out also, it's a Herculean job.
What do you cover; so many off-shoots have been added to Modern Library since 1999?.

I'd say a possible Plan A is to revise the existing book. There is a
collection of updates (on this very site) that are corrections and
additions to what exists in the current edition. Perhaps someone would
approach Henry and offer to revise the current edition.

Plan B is more ambitious.

The offshoots are pretty much listed as catagories.? ie: chronicle, classic, bs(Like King Kong, give me a break).? So it wouldn't be impossible, just a project for several colaborators.? The pricing would be the trick. But I always the guide was designed to be a guide to the collector.? Wouldn't it be nice to make the quide without the price.? That would save a lot ot time and perhaps some enmity.
Say what?

Come on.? The condition is the grade.? You don't have to go to the extent of defining what has been difined.? It seems a listing of the miscellany and its connection to ML would suffice.
