or, have no bids at any price
Luck is a very major factor when it comes to ebay.

I was astonished at the price that copy of Moby Dick fetched too. It's a stunning copy and a terrific jacket -- but $750 (or whatever the final price was) seems way out of proportion.  I was almost tempted to put my equally nice copy up on eBay.
