By "the 1949 DJ", I think you mean the DJ shown on the dogeared website as 
1949.  While the year 1949 is the vintage of the DJ scanned, it's not 
necessarily the year that particular style came out.  I have a spring, '41 copy of 
Flaubert (price .95, 271 titles) with the exact same DJ, also w/no intro.
