Hi Bob,

I saw that definition for 'blay'; wasn't sure if it was related.  So 'gaird' was an old form of guard?  Interesting.  This is the quote from the Pickwick Papers:

'And a low thief,' added the gentleman in the green-foil smalls. 'And an unreclaimable blaygaird,' added the gentleman in purple.
