It didn't end; it just went to hell in a handbasket, along with the 
quality of ML books. That's when sewn bindings were replaced with 
perfect (that is, glued) bindings.

Of course, Joe is right - the "woodcut" ML period is quite 
collectable by those who want to collect it.
